Kaye-Ree - singer, songwriter
and soul queen

Caught between two cultures, the daughter of a Persian father and a German mother, Kaye-Ree’s artist soul finds her home in music and its different forms of expression.

The feeling of not belonging to one culture in particular becomes an instrument that gives her the ability to harness creativity from other cultures.

Her biggest idols were Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, India.Arie and Stevie Wonder – who she sang for in a background choir. Getting into different languages, American and Persian literature and also the cooperation with Felix Justen, formed those influences into a very unique style that an American journalist called “Global Soul”.

Nothing seems less likely than the musical cooperation of a soul singer with Persian roots and a HipHop and R’n’B past (Kaye-Ree) and a classical guitarist and song accompanist (Felix Justen).

“The results are, as the press critics call it, a unique mix of poetic lyric, romantic but also jazzy-groovy soul music, that we play together with our fabulous tabla player Kiomars Nawab and our drummer Amir Eftekhari. We perform our music throughout Europe, from London’s Ronnie Scott to Brussels, Milan, Cannes and Paris, Mallorca ... all the way to the USA, i.e. New York, Philadelphia and Atlanta in live music clubs or concert halls,” Felix Justen says.

Their two albums Endless Melody (2009, Reevolution Records) und New Air (2013, Reelement Records), bear their signature and are not influenced by big record companies, but are independently produced and published on Kaye-Ree’s own label, Reelement Records. Her third album, Growth, has 13 songs written by Felix Justen, Martin Loos, Amir Eftekhari and Kaye-Ree, and was produced by Martin Loos and Kaye-Ree.
